Police have arrested a large number of looters who, dressed as firefighters, have been breaking into abandoned homes in Los Angeles, where around 35.000 homes and businesses are still without power due to devastating fires.

The fires have damaged power lines across California.

Meanwhile, strong winds are contributing to the rapid spread of the fires and preventing aircraft from assisting in firefighting efforts.

One of the major issues facing the entire county is looters breaking into evacuated empty homes.

There have been numerous reported cases of looting, with some looters disguising themselves as firefighters to gain easier access to private property.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)stated that a significant number of people have been arrested for looting.

“We arrested two individuals who posed as firefighters and entered abandoned homes to loot,” he said.

According to current information, the fires, which began spreading on January 7th, have claimed 16 lives, and more than 150.000 people have been evacuated.
