Lufthansa cancels Flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut for Security Reasons

German airline Lufthansa has canceled all flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut due to security concerns amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.

The airline has canceled all flights to Tel Aviv until August 8 “due to current events”. Passenger and freight traffic are equally affected, writes the “Bild” newspaper.

In addition, flights to Beirut will be suspended until August 12. A Lufthansa flight from Munich to Tel Aviv landed in Larnaca, in the Greek Cypriot administration, on Thursday morning before returning to Germany after the crew refused to fly to Israel amid rising tensions with Iran.

The German airline also announced on Wednesday that it had canceled two overnight flights to Israel from Frankfurt and Munich due to rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

The security situation in the Middle East worsened after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the Israeli army’s claim to have killed a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
