Germany’s leading airline Lufthansa announced today that it will extend the suspension of flights to the Middle East until August 21 due to current regional tensions.

According to the German news agency DPA, the suspension will affect all flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman and Erbil.

In addition, all airlines within the Lufthansa Group, including Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, will avoid flights over Iraqi and Iranian airspace.

The decision comes in response to current tensions between Israel and Iran.

Lufthansa had previously canceled a flight to Israel on July 31 for security reasons. Last week, the airline further extended the suspension of flights to the Middle East due to escalating tensions.
