“The foundation of our work is a clearly defined task, and that is, to point out the value of this area and ultimately to recognize individuals and cultures with whom we share the same or similar values. I believe that this year we have succeeded in that. I want to thank all members of the Committee for this year’s cooperation, especially the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr.. Gjorge Ivanov, who has during the past decade facilitated extensive and positive progress in the region; congratulations on the well-deserved recognition,” concluded academician Loga.
Members of the Committee for the Isa Beg Isakovic international award, the most prominent contemporary Bosnian historians, Professors Enes Pelidija and Enver Imamovic, confirmed that this is a place and culture with whom we jointly share, as the founder of Sarajevo, Isa beg Isakovic.
“Before Novi Pazar (1455) and Sarajevo (1462) were established, Isa beg Isakovic was on the Skopje frontier (1439), where he built a number of important facilities, including one of the oldest madrasas in the Balkans, which still exists and is named after him. Near Skopje is the tomb of the last Bosnian Princess Katarina Tomasevic Kotromanic, which was restored by the joint efforts of Bosnian and Macedonian authorities,” says Prof. Pelidija.
Prof. Enver Imamovic, who was one of the initiators of the tomb’s restoration in Skopje even before the recent war, says that in 1993 it was planned that President Alija Izetbegovic visit the building because Katarina was the last Bosnian Princess and the symbol of our statehood, but the circumstances of war prevented the visit. Prof. Imamovic added that the Macedonian society is a “beehive” of different cultures and people.
“This is a unique place which outlasted all known existing civilizations in the past several thousand years. As in the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is a complex community whose diversity is in fact its true fortune.”
