The majority of fans of the English Premier League club Manchester United support building a new stadium rather than modernizing the current Old Trafford.
Out of 50.000 season ticket holders and club members surveyed, 52 percent backed the idea of constructing a new facility, while 31 percent supported renovating or expanding one of the world’s most iconic stadiums, Old Trafford.
United’s city rival Manchester City left their old Maine Road stadium in 2003 to move to a newly built stadium, while their English rival Liverpool renovated their Anfield.
In September, United released images of potential Old Trafford redevelopment, suggesting that a new stadium could be part of a multi-billion development project. Club owners are considering options with a special task force, including former United defender Gary Neville and World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.
Furthermore, it was reported that a final decision on renovation or new construction is likely to be made in the first half of next year, and fans believe the task force should focus its discussions on building a new stadium with a capacity of 100.000 rather than on renovation.
