Mate Rimac – From a Garage to 260 Million BAM in less than a Decade

Mate Rimac started dealing with electric cars back in the year of 2009. He started from a garage, and today, less than a decade later, his company has more than 400 employees from all over the world, and one of his investors is the world-known Porsche. Rimac was born in Livno, BiH, and he lives and works in Croatia now. The value of his company is around 260 million BAM.

Rimac started the story of electric cars through the work on an old BMW that he turned into an electric car, with which he wished – and succeeded – to win against his gasoline competitors.

“First test drive 8 years ago. It was built in a tiny garage without heating, during a freezing winter. Of course it was a drift. That is all about “sudden” success – it has been almost a decade. However, there is still a long way in front of us,” wrote Rimac.

His first super car Concept_One had the world premiere at the world’s largest car fair in Frankfurt in the year of 2011. Concept_One became the fastest electric car in the world.

Rimac showed then that they are doing some serious business, which attracted his investors. Three companies invested in Rimac Automobile in the year of 2014, and according to certain estimates, the company was around 500 million HRK worth even back then.

Rimac has workers from all over the world now, mostly great engineers, and he passed the number of 100 employees in the year of 2015. Now, this company employs more than 400 people, and when everything is considered, their number will be even larger for sure.

After years of development and several prototypes, Rimac presented the production version of its electric model car back in the year of 2016, which included improved performance and technology in comparison to the ones he previously produced.

This year, Rimac introduced his new C_Two car at the fair in Geneva. That is a car that needs 11.8 seconds for the speed of 300 km/h, and its maximum speed is 412 km/h. This is what makes it one of the fastest electric cars in the world.
