andyThe EU has so far allocated 85 million Euros in total for flood recovery for Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are currently finalizing the contracting for the first 42 million Euros so that it can be implemented very shortly, Spokesperson of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative to BiH Andy McGuffie told to FENA.

Asked by FENA how the funds will be allocated, McGuffie said that the EU assistance will be provided through IPA, the Instrument for pre-accession and that this will be managed by the Delegation of the European Union to BiH.

”On the basis of the Recovery Needs Assessment, that the first 42 million Euros will focus on restoring public infrastructure, particularly school buildings, hospitals, social welfare centers, and small bridges and road works”, said McGuffie.

He added that priority will also be “helping the most vulnerable people (c. 4000 families) to reconstruct their homes and provide them with livelihood measures“.

”The second part of EU assistance, amounting to 45 million Euros will look at ways to help BiH to improve its resilience to natural disasters, to support small and medium enterprises to start operating again as well as helping local NGOs with social development recovery assistance, and other necessary measures”, explained McGuffie.
