The chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Dragan Covic visited on Thursday the Canton Sarajevo, where he met with cantonal prime minister Elmedin Konakovic and ministers in the government.

This is the first of a number of visits planned by Covic in the upcoming period, in order to familiarize himself with all the problems and developments in all parts of BiH.

“We are going from Sarajevo, and in the coming period we will visit many places in BiH, as well as the Brcko District. This is part of our trip to the European Union, and there are only four other points for us to fulfill until all the conditions for joining the EU and I think that we will fulfill them all by the end of November,” Covic said in his address to the media after the meeting.

He also announced that Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, will visit BiH in November, which is likely to be another turning point on the European road to BiH.

Konakovic stressed on this occasion that the cantons are strategic partners of the state on the road to the EU and that they all have the same goal, that is to join the EU.

“I hope that by the end of the year we will be able to capitalize on all our efforts. Europe needs to recognize our efforts towards Euroatlantic integration,” Konakovic concluded.

He pointed out that, thanks to the efforts of the current government, the budget of Canton Sarajevo will grow rapidly this year, by 30 million BAM.
