Mehmedovic about Tolimir’s Death: their Crimes continue to hurt

mehmedovicHatidza Mehmedovic from the Association “Mothers of Srebrenica” commented the information on the death of a convicted war criminal Zdravko Tolimir, emphasizing that the death of a criminal cannot ease the pain of the victims, because committed crimes cannot be forgotten.

Mehmedovic emphasized that no verdict, not even the death of one of the war criminals, cannot ease the pain of the victims who lost their beloved ones.

“Unfortunately, the Hague Tribunal delayed all the processes so much that many of the victims who survived the crimes in Srebrenica and elsewhere meanwhile died, without seeing a justice. I can only say that it is a pity that Tolimir, as well as other criminals probably will not get true and real punishment, which they deserve,” said Mehmedovic.

She added that, even if the criminals get convicted on certain prison sentences, the conditions in which they serve these punishments are more than satisfying, and the criminals have all the conveniences.

“The real punishment are serving victims and families of victims for all that Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic, Ratko Mladic, Zdravko Tolimir and many others have done to us,” said Mehmedovic.

As a reminder, Zdravko Tolimir died in Hague where he was serving a lifetime prison sentence, which was confirmed last year. Tolimir was the former military commander and assistant of the Commander for intelligence and security affairs of the Main Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska and one of the main associates of Ratko Mladic.

Mehmedovic stated that she does not believe in the fairness of trials in the case of Karadzic and Mladic, highlighting her doubts about the fair judgment in the case of Radovan Karadzic that is announced for the end of March 2016.
