Members of the Border Police Unit of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Gorica prevented the smuggling of 14 foreign nationals on Saturday. They are eight citizens of the People’s Republic of China, five citizens of the Republic of Turkey and one person without identification documents, who stated that he came from Syria.

The smuggling was discovered during the surveillance of the state border in the border zone in the municipality of Grude, where two vehicles were found – a Citroen with Bosnian national registration and a Fiat with Croatian national registration – at the moment when the foreign nationals were changing from the Citroen to the Fiat. The drivers M. I. (1956) and A. E. (1998), citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, are being charged with this smuggling.

Due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that the criminal offense of smuggling of persons was committed, the duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina was notified of the incident, according to whose order the drivers were questioned as suspects and the vehicles, mobile phones, money and other evidence were temporarily seized. The foreign nationals were prosecuted for misdemeanors in accordance with the Law on Foreigners. A report on the criminal offense of human smuggling will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH against the suspects.
