The President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, announced today on Facebook that he will resign as President of Croatia after the parliamentary elections, in which he will participate as a non-party candidate on the SDP list, and that he is confident of victory.

“I have decided to run as an independent and non-partisan candidate on the SDP list in the elections for the Croatian Parliament, which will be held on April 17 this year. After the election victory, which I am sure of, I will step down from my position as President of the Republic and with the support of the new majority in the Croatian Parliament to take responsibility for leading the Government of the Republic of Croatia,” Milanović wrote on his Facebook page.

“Until assuming the new position, I will continue to perform my duty as the President of the Republic of Croatia in accordance with my constitutional obligations and duties,” he added.

Earlier today, President Milanović announced parliamentary elections for April 17. A little later, at the press conference of SDP president Peđa Grbina, Milanović announced that he will be the SDP candidate for the Prime Minister in the parliamentary elections and will be the holder of the list in the 1st constituency, Hina news agency reports.
