Minister of FA: Serbia will not allow Kosovo to become a Member of the UN

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in Kampala that Serbia will not allow Kosovo to become a member of the United Nations and thanked all countries that do not recognize Kosovo’s independence.

During the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is being held in Kampala, Dacic pointed out that it is important for the interests of Serbia to be present at the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Uganda, because still a large number of member countries have not recognized Kosovo.

“These are mostly friendly countries to us, there are more than 100 countries that are members, and that is why it is very useful for us to be present and to participate in their activities,” said Dacic.

Dacic pointed out that Serbia is a militarily neutral country, committed to its strategic commitment to full membership in the European Union, but emphasized that at the same time it is strengthening traditional friendships with African, Latin American, Asia-Pacific countries and within the Non-Aligned Movement.

“Serbia and the Serbian people deeply sympathize and share the pain of all the lives lost in the conflicts happening around the world, including the tragic events in the Middle East and Ukraine. We are convinced that only constructive dialogue and diplomatic solutions can lead to peace. All conflicts are resolved for negotiating table and there is no alternative to that,” said Dacić.

The Non-Aligned Movement is the largest organization of states after the United Nations, and was founded in the middle of the 20th century at the height of the Cold War, as a counterweight to opposing blocs led by the former Soviet Union and the United States of America.

Serbia is not a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which consists of 193 member countries, and is participating in the summit as an observer.
