[wzslider autoplay=”true”] Mirsad Fikic from Prijedor has been living in Berlin for more than three decades where he works in the hospitality sector. He felt a great nostalgia, so he decided to open a restaurant which, with its interior and menu, brings a ray of Sarajevo and BiH to Germany.
“I left my native country BiH, but it has never left me,” he said and added that he is working in catering and hospitality since very young age.
He has been visiting Sarajevo for years and says he got “infected” by the capital city of BiH.
“I had to show that infection through emotions in the construction of a restaurant called “Sarajevo Inn Grunewald” which is located in the elite part of Berlin. I am particularly pleased with inscription “Sarajevo” at the entrance of Berlin, written in capital letters. Our guests are 80 % Germans who enjoy Bosnian cuisine. Our menu is ‘slim’, but we are doing our best to make it very good quality,” stated Fikic.
“The restaurant is made of wood that was imported from Sarajevo, or more precisely from Mokro, and it was made by Dragisa Petrovic from Sarajevo. The dishes in which we serve the food were purchased at Bascarsija as well as decorations and uniforms for our waiters.”
“I did my best to bring Sarajevo to Berlin the way I like it. Our chefs are from BiH and they have work permits, and also another waiter from Prijedor will start working here soon since we are expanding our business,” said Fikic.
You can find on the menu following dishes: pie, cevapcici in somun (flat bread), lamb on a spit on charcoal, Bosnian pot (type of soup), the Bosnian plate – everything that you can eat in BiH and is not typical for Germans. Many well-known celebrities ate in this restaurant as well as foreign diplomats. Every guest “gets” a story of the beauty of BiH.
“This object represents the foundation of one big story. I brought the name Sarajevo to Berlin, and the next step is to bring Berlin to Sarajevo as well as tourists from Germany. I am currently working on projects for the Municipality of Center Sarajevo, which are: the five-star hotel ‘Grunewald Palace ‘ with 200 rooms and 108 suites on Zlatiste and the ethno village in Trnovo “Grunewald Inn Sarajevo,” said Fikic.
This successful restaurateur and investor is a family man. His wife Aida is from Bratunac, whom he met in Berlin. They combined business with pleasure since Aida is a tax and financial advisor and, as Fikic says, she is his right hand. She takes care of the restaurant and their children Alem and Amina.
Besides promoting BiH and investing in it, he is also known as a great humanitarian who helps people. Also, he is lobbying for our products to be sold on the German market.
“I am very attached to BiH, especially to Sarajevo. I often come there due to my manager’s job, which is why I travel a lot around the world but I still somehow have to work on the route Berlin – Sarajevo and the whole world. I am hoping for the upcoming meeting in Sarajevo when we will enter the second phase of negotiations for those projects. I am happy about the great mood of the people in the municipality of Centar, Mr. Nedzad Ajanadzic and his associates, and on the other hand, there are great interests of my co-investors who also accepted and supported the implementation of both projects,” stated Fikic.
