Mladen Samardžija, one of the most wanted fugitives in the European Union, was arrested today in an operation by the Directorate for Organized and Serious Crime and the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) of the MUP of the Repubika Srpska. Samardžija was arrested in Jahorina Mountain on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.

Police officers of the Directorate for Organized and Serious Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of East Sarajevo are carrying out an operation codenamed “Tokyo” aimed at depriving a member of an organized criminal group who was involved in cocaine trafficking in the previous period.

“During these activities, the person M.S., a citizen of the Republic of Slovenia and BiH, was deprived of his liberty, for whom an Interpol warrant was issued for Slovenia for the criminal offense of ‘unauthorized production and trafficking of narcotic drugs’,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RS announced.

It is added that as part of the investigation of the Directorate for Organized and Serious Crime, which lasted for a long period of time under the supervision of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, it was established that the person M.S. after fleeing to BiH (of which he is a citizen) continued to manage an organized criminal group that deals with the international trade in narcotic drugs in the territory of the European Union, BiH, Serbia and Montenegro, and the investigation itself documented the transportation and sale of more than 40 kilograms of the narcotic drug cocaine and half a kilogram of the intoxicating drug heroin.

Police officers from the East Sarajevo Police Department, the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the support of Europol are also participating in the “Tokyo” operation with members of the Directorate for Organized and Serious Crime, and so far one kilogram of the narcotic drug cocaine, 8,000 BAM, 122,580 euros, four pistol, laptop, several mobile phones, a small amount of marijuana, 20 pieces of 9×19 mm bullets and several vehicles.

The person deprived of liberty will be handed over to the acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the criminal investigation, and a report will be filed against him about the crimes of “organized crime” in connection with the crimes of “illegal traffic in narcotic drugs”, “money laundering” and “obstructing the work of the judiciary”.
