Model Municipality: Tesanj for the first Time in its History has 12,003 Employed Residents

According to the latest data of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, published on November 1st, in the regular monthly bulletin, the municipality of Tesanj has 12,003 employed people, as of August of the current year. This is the first time in the history of this municipality, since in 1991 there were less than 7,000 employees.

“Exactly five years ago, in 2012, the number of employees in the municipality of Tesanj was 9,001. Now this number increased by 3,002 employees, i.e. it increased by 33%. This is a result of the continuity of the development policy that we have been implementing in Tesanj for the last 20 years and more, together with investors, domestic and foreign, holders of private initiative, as well as all citizens of our municipality in creating a favorable business environment. However, I think we cannot be completely satisfied with the results for two reasons. Local environments that work and employ in BiH and from which they pay more into budgets of higher levels of government, get less back into the local budget. So with the municipality of Tesanj, the municipal budget did not grow at the speed of job creation, export growth and investments due to the wrong tax policy. And secondly, I would like to have reached a higher average salary. Unfortunately, the administrative centers and the public sector in this country consume a lot and have much more than those who work in production. In that sense, I think that we should all together devise policies and strategies that would increase our overall competitiveness, as well as social sensitivity in an effort to raise the standard of citizens,” Suad Huskić, mayor of Tesanj said.

Local development is the driver of regional development, and progress at the higher levels of the state. In the last two decades, Tesanj has been an example of successful local development, said the mayor of Tesanj, who emphasized:

“I think it’s time for some obstacles to the further development of local communities, which are embedded in the tax system, to change. Where a new value is created, citizens should feel the results of their work to the extent tht they belong to them. This approach would help the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, accelerate development by reducing certain unnatural privileges.”

“We intend to encourage public dialogue on these topics, and in this respect, we support a new, fairer and developmental model of distribution of public revenues that will be put into the function of the progress of all. Such an example is also the initiative of the Zenica-Doboj Canton based on the study prepared by the Faculty of Economics,” reads the statement from the Cabinet of the mayor.
