Money for Children’s Treatment instead of buying Vehicles for Politicians

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today made a decision according to which this year the purchase of vehicles in the amount of two million BAM is waived, and this money will be diverted for the treatment of children suffering from cystic fibrosis.

“The Ministries and the Government of the FBiH agreed to give up the purchase of vehicles in order to solve the issue of treatment of children suffering from cystic fibrosis in a high-quality manner in the short term, in an interventional way. That is, through interventional imports, and for a systemic solution, the Federal Institute for health insurance and cantonal, and the Government will for sure,” said Nediljko Rimac, Minister of Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized that this issue must be solved in a systemic way and that about 12.5 million BAM is needed annually for this.

FBiH Finance Minister Toni Kraljević said that at today’s session, the Amendments and Supplements to the FBiH Budget for 2023 and accompanying amendments to the Law on Budget Execution were adopted.

“The budget is being rebalanced in the amount of 6,937,563,355 BAM. You will remember when the budget was passed in both houses of the parliament that it was literally bombarded with amendments and in that mess a whole series of captured funds remained in the final version of the budget due to the inconsistency of the economic codes, which is required an urgent change and amendment of the budget in order to free up those funds,” said Kraljević.

According to him, the budget increase amounts to 211.7 million BAM.

He recalled the measures of the European Central Bank to curb inflation, i.e. raising the reference interest rate, which is reflected in the significant increase in interest rates used to service the debts of the FBiH. He explained that this item was corrected by 62 million BAM, stating that these decisions were referred to the parliamentary procedure under an urgent procedure.

“I am glad that I can be the messenger of good news. The FBiH Government Collegium has approved that the funds intended for the purchase of official cars in the amount of two million BAM be repurposed for the purpose of helping patients with cystic fibrosis. It is an ad hoc measure, a palliative measure . but very welcome at this time, which needs to dynamize the systematic solution to this problem,” said Kraljević.
