The Police Academy of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FMUP) made the second cycle of training on the topic “Violence in the Family” official. The training is implemented with the support of the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance (ICITAP) of the US Ministry of Justice, and is intended for members of the policy agencies in the FBiH.

The US Ambassador to BiH Patrick S. Moon addressed the participants. He stressed the commitment of the US government to provide support to the rule of law, fight against corruption and the efforts in achieving a higher level of human rights. This is one of the priorities for BiH’s path to NATO and EU membership.

He recalled the statistics that in BiH one in three women report domestic violence, and said that the number might be higher because many victims do not report violence due to fear. He stressed the importance of police training personnel in the prevention of family violence that is currently at an alarming rate. He said that domestic violence is a serious criminal offense and not just a social one. The Ambassador expressed his belief that training in this area would provide the necessary knowledge on how to help victims escape this ‘deadly spiral of violence’.

“The US Embassy remains committed to partnership with BiH law enforcement agencies in order to provide all BiH citizens what they require and deserve, and that is laws, order and a higher degree of the rule of law’’, said Ambassador Moon.

The Federal Minister for Internal Affairs Predrag Kurteš, Director of the Federal Police Dragan Lukač and Director of the FMUP Police Academy Taib Spahić addressed the guests and participants, and they expressed their gratitude of the Embassy and the US government for their continued efforts in training and equipping police agencies. Other participants included the cantonal police commissioners, participants in training and instructors.

The training will last for five days, and the highest police officials in the FBiH called on all participants to give their maximum focus on the ways and procedures to address domestic violence.

For members of the police agency from BiH, and with the support and organization of ICITAP, two training cycles on domestic violence are implemented.
