National Museum Reopening radiosarajevo.baThe civic action “I am Museum” was launched with the aim of reminding B&H and the international community that the most important museum institution in B&H, the National Museum has been closed for almost three years, as well as to influence those responsible to solve this problem as soon as possible, ended today.

Aida Kalender and Ines Tanovic-Sijercic, on behalf of the Citizens’ Association “Akcija”, and the director of the Museum Adnan Busuladzic spoke at the press conference about the expected and achieved results of this action.

“Through the action ‘I am Museum’ we wanted to change the public image of the National Museum in the media and public, and point to the unsustainable and existential situation in which the employees of the Museum are and whose number decreases day by day”, said Ines Tanovic-Sijercic.

Tanovic-Sijercic also added that, through this action, the focus was also on sensitizing the BH public and broader on the value and multicultural character of the collection preserved in the Museum, on the creation of the philanthropic action and “occupation” of the Museum with a series of cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts, performances, public debates and charity campaigns. The aim is, she said, to also strengthen the capacities of the museum and, the most important, to “put the issue of ‘rescuing’ the National Museum back on the agenda of the political decision makers”.

Moreover, a special campaign titled ‘I am on duty for the Museum’ was launched, showing the solidarity of the BH public and cultural workers with the employees of the Museum. “They are not receiving salary, but they are keeping the treasure of the Museum for the future generations”, said Kalender.

More than 3.000 citizens of B&H, guests from the region and the world, as well as 300 collectives have been on duty in the Museum since August 3rd until September 9th.
