During the weekend, Mostar hosted the Rolla Mostar Half Marathon, with approximately 1.200 runners participating from over 50 countries around the world.

Following the Saturday morning Mostar Marathon, the central event of this sports manifestation, a charity race was held on a four-kilometer track.

More than 1.500 runners of all age groups participated in this race, including parents with children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

The funds raised through the charity race will be directed towards equipping the pediatric day room in Mostar.

According to the organizers, as much as 80 percent of the participants in the charity race come from the city of Mostar itself, although the first to cross the finish line was Marko Prlic from Grude, with a time of 13:20.

“As for the organization, I am very satisfied. It’s not easy to arrange for over a thousand runners on this track, the conditions were good, although the wind caused some problems. I am happy with the result; this is my fourth participation in a charity race and my second victory,” said Prlic.

Medals and special awards were presented at a ceremonial event for the most successful competitors.

The first-place winners in the men’s and women’s categories won 800 BAM each, the second-place winners won 600 BAM, and the third-place winners won 400 BAM.

Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordic, stated how impressive it is to see the number of people visiting the now-traditional Mostar Half Marathon.

“We see a good atmosphere, congratulations to everyone who participated, especially to the runners from Kenya who traveled a long way to come to Mostar today. This speaks volumes about the Mostar Half Marathon; participants from 50 countries are involved, and I think that this is an indication of how we passed that critical border, and whether this project will survive or thrive. This has been recognized in the city administration as one of the tourist attractions, not to mention the sports dimension of it all, and we will continue to support this beautiful story,” Kordic concluded on Saturday.
