In Mostar, the mercury on the thermometer today reached 41 degrees in the shade, and this was officially recorded by the Google application with a red warning for extreme heat that meteorologists have been announcing for days in our country.
However, the infernal heat did not prevent many tourists from visiting the old city center of Mostar and enjoying the view of the jumps from the Old Bridge, but many, taken aback by the heat, sought salvation in the icy river Neretva with refreshing drinks.
So today, many visitors to the largest city in Herzegovina took a bath or, cautiously entering the Neretva under the Old Bridge, refreshed themselves and took photos in a unique setting next to the widely known UNESCO monument.
But no one was fully prepared for the hellish heat in Mostar, not even the jumpers from Mostar, who had to specially prepare for today’s jumps from the Old Bridge by pouring cold water, so as not to experience shock when touching the icy Neretva.
Longtime Mostar jumper Semir Miro Kazazić, who spent the day on the Old Bridge today, tells that despite the unbearable heat, he recorded seven jumps for tourists, because the traditional jump from the Old Bridge has become part of the tourist offer that visitors to Mostar do not want to miss, regardless of the hellish heat.
“It’s unbearable for us, but luckily Neretva is here, so we’re cooling down,” Kazazić told Klix.ba, aware that the number of visitors in the evening hours will be much higher than in the period when citizens are advised not to stay in the sun .
Precisely because of the heat wave in Mostar, emergency medical services have been working tirelessly for days due to the increased number of interventions caused by heatstroke, and doctors are calling on citizens to behave responsibly.
It is recommended to avoid being in the sun between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., drink plenty of fluids, eat light food and protect yourself from the sun with a cap, hat, and sunglasses, and wear loose, light, and breathable clothing, Klix.ba reports.
