For the first time in 24 years, mothers of Srebrenica, due to the pandemic of the coronavirus, did not attend peaceful protests at Srebrenica Victims’ Square in Tuzla, which they normally organize every 11th of the month, Fena news agency reports.

Instead, through symbolic action, Tuzla volunteer and activist Nihad Suljic reminded the public of the genocide that occurred in Srebrenica in July 1995.

“Today, on April 11, for the first time in 24 years, women, mothers and sisters gathered at the ‘Women of Srebrenica’ Association have been prevented from going to the streets to protest the injustice inflicted on them. Because of this, I decided to do it for them in a symbolic way. This is not a public gathering, I came out with pillows with the names of their loved ones embroidered,” said Suljic.

He urged the competent authorities to do their most to help mothers find their loved ones, to bury them with dignity and to punish the perpetrators.
