In Sarajevo, the National Prayer Breakfast was held for the first time, an event that brings together different confessions and political beliefs.

The prayer breakfast, entitled “May we all be one”, was attended by numerous high-ranking officials, among others, High Representative Christian Schmidt, Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Nermin Nikšić, Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, State Parliamentarian Saša Magazinović, President of the Jewish Community of BiH Jakob Finci, Parliamentarian Jasmin Imamović, Josip Juratović, Ivo Komšić and others.

The main sponsor of the event is the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, and together with MP Saša Magazinović, the organizers and hosts are Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić, Member of the German Bundestag, Josip Juratović, and Professor Dr. Ahmet Shala.

This, as stated, cross-party and cross-denominational meeting, which is based on the tradition of the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, gathers people from the political, cultural, religious, academic and economic life of the Western Balkans with the aim of promoting understanding between people regardless of political, religious, ideological, cultural or other affiliation.

The National Prayer Breakfast has its roots in America, from the time before the Second World War, when the poor gathered together to have a prayer together with a meal.

Later, this tradition was taken over by a group of congressmen, and since the 50s, the presence of the president of the USA has been regular.

The prayer breakfast is an event that has an international character. Throughout all this time, it has retained its essence – gathering people of different confessions and political affiliations, and the promotion of peace and religious tolerance, ONASA writes.
