Negotiations on changes to the BiH Election Law continued

Negotiations on changes to the BiH Election Law continued today in the building of the European Union Delegation in Sarajevo. Mediators among domestic political leaders include US Ambassador Michael Murphy and EU official Angelina Eichhorst.

This morning, Eichhorst stated that through changes in the election legislation and the Constitution of BiH, it is necessary to ensure rights for all citizens. She also stressed that changes to the election law and the BiH Constitution would bring Bosnia and Herzegovina significantly closer to EU candidate status.

U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy, who replaced Matthew Palmer as mediator, said an agreement to amend the Electoral Code does not mean an agreement at any cost.

Yesterday, SDA President Bakir Izetbegovic, after a meeting with EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, said that the HDZ had finally agreed to reduce the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH, but that they had additional demands that were rigid.

HDZ leader Dragan Covic revealed that Josep Borrell asked him and Izetbegovic to state whether they were ready to talk intensively about this in order to solve everything.

It should be noted that the SDP has made a decision to reactivate participation in talks on changes to the Election Law, which, as they said, is the result of an agreement and a common position of the opposition parties.
