The Israeli army declared a state of war alert after a series of rocket attacks by the militant group Hamas from the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli army, 2,500 rockets were fired in the surprise attack on Israel, and tens of armed attackers invaded the south of the country. In response to the deadliest incident since 2021, the Israel Defense Forces announced that it was targeting Hamas targets in Gaza, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was at war and that the perpetrator would pay the price.

The Israeli army announced a “state of war alert”, launched attacks on Gaza

Alarm sirens sounded across southern and central Israel after the militant group Hamas suddenly launched a massive rocket attack. The Israel Defense Forces have announced that they are mobilizing soldiers after declaring a state of war alert. Reservists are also invited.

Kobi Shabtai, Chief of the Israeli Police: “We are deploying units to the south, setting up blockades in all cities. We are advising residents to stay in their homes, not to go outside because rocket attacks are happening at the same time.”

In one of the most serious escalations in recent years between Israel and the militant movement that rules Gaza, Hamas gunmen crossed the border fence in several places and infiltrated Israeli communities. Hamas has announced the start of a military operation against Israel, calling on Palestinians to fight.

Joav Galant, Minister of Defense of Israel: “Hamas made a serious mistake this morning and launched a war against the State of Israel. The Israeli army is fighting the enemy in every location. I call on all citizens of Israel to follow the security instructions. The State of Israel will win this war.”

At least six people died in the attack, and at least 200 people were wounded. In response to the attack, the Israeli army targets Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an emergency meeting of security officials, while condemnations of the Hamas attack came from the European Union.

“We are at war. The enemy will pay a price the likes of which he has never seen before. I have issued instructions to first clear the villages of terrorists who have infiltrated. The enemy will pay a price he has never seen before,” Netanyahu said.

There is also panic among the population in the Gaza Strip, they fear Israeli retaliation. Meanwhile, Israel’s defense ministry has declared a state of emergency within an 80-kilometer radius of the Gaza Strip so that the Israeli army can better protect civilians. This incident is the most serious since Israel and Hamas fought a ten-day conflict in 2021.
