Dzemil Hodzic came into possession of previously unseen photos from wartime Sarajevo, mostly of children, and published them on the Sniper Alley Photo Facebook page.
The photographs were taken in the period from 1992 to 1995 during the siege of Sarajevo, and they “capture” everyday moments of life in the besieged city. The author of the photographs is Jean-Christian Bourcart, an award-winning French art photographer and filmmaker.
Bourcart also directed two feature films, the first during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the second, a science fiction thriller set in the New York art world, starring the award-winning Elodie Bouchez.
Nine books have been published about his work. He has been teaching and conducting workshops throughout his career. In 2021, all his archives were deposited in the Nicephore Niepce Museum in Chalon-sur-Saone, France.
Namely, Sniper Alley Photo is a project started by Dzemil Hodzic. A project aimed at collecting and combining the testimonies of survivors and photojournalists who reported from wartime Sarajevo. This project was not only created to document and collect data from the siege period but also to pay tribute to all those who paid with their lives for such a noble thing. The goal is, to tell the truth at all costs but also to celebrate courage above all else.
