New Hijri Year 1437 avaz.baThe New 1437th year according to Hijra starts today at sundown, at 6:13 p.m. On that occasion, Majlis of the Islamic Community Sarajevo will organize an academy titled “Putevima Hidzre” tomorrow after Maghrib prayer at the mosque on Cengic Vila.

Adequate lectures supported by the choir of the Majlis will be held within the program, with fireworks afterwards – at 8:15 p.m. at the plateau in front of the mosque, announced the Religious-Educational Service of the Majlis of Islamic Community Sarajevo.

First Muharram is the first day of Hijri year. Word “hijrat” means migration in Arabic, and “hijratun-nebijji” refers to the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in year 622 according to the Prophet Isa.

Hijra of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina is one the most significant events in the history of Islam. It represents one of the most significant dates in the overall history of Muslims, and the mankind as well, thereby Muslims celebrate it with adequate program, a mawlid, and educational lectures on historical and political importance of Hijra.
