No One was held Responsible for Death of 180 Miners

The 32nd anniversary of the biggest mining accident in Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked today by laying flowers and wreaths at the Dobrnja-jug Mramor mine memorial.

In the Dobrnja-jug pit on August 26, 1990, 180 miners of the third shift, whose average age was 27, lost their lives.

Families with 365 children were left behind by the miners who died.

Only one miner, Smajl Imamovic, survived this accident, suffering serious injuries.

Imamovic is still employed at the Kreka mine.

According to the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton from 2006, the main cause of the tragedy was the explosion of a cloud of coal dust caused by improper blasting of the steel substructure.

No one was held responsible for this accident.

The Kreka Mines Union says that this accident must never be forgotten, and that it should be a warning to strengthen safety in the mines, which, due to insufficient investment, is not at a satisfactory level.
