Heavy rainfall has caused major problems in several places across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Numerous residential, auxiliary and business buildings, as well as agricultural land have been flooded. River levels are mostly falling, and stabilization is expected in the coming days. However, the water level of several rivers has risen.
State of emergency flood defense lifted in Prijedor
The City Emergency Staff has decided to lift the state of emergency flood defense in the Prijedor area, as the situation in the flooded areas has begun to stabilize and the water is receding.
“The current water level of the Sana is 436 centimeters, and the Gomjenica is 481 centimeters. The water level of both rivers has a tendency to fall, but all entities continue with activities in the field,” the City Emergency Staff said in a statement.
They announced that classes will resume regularly in all primary and secondary schools in the city area from tomorrow, except for the branch of the “Branko Ćopić” Primary School in Gomjenica, which was flooded.
Water level of the Sava River stagnates, water recedes
The water level of the Sava River in Brčko is currently stagnant and at the Šamac measuring station it is 701 cm, the Operational Communication Center of the Brčko District of BiH said.
As they stated, the water levels of smaller rivers and streams in the District have remained unchanged since yesterday and water recedes if the water level of the Sava does not rise further.
In the settlements of Brka and Palanka, the water has receded slightly, and the most critical situation is in the village of Vukšić in the southwestern part of the District, where the road at the entrance to the village has been cut off due to the overflow of the Tinja River.
Rising water levels of the Spreča River in Gračanica and Živinice
The water level of the Spreča River in Gračanica and Živinice is rising, as is the Jala River in Modrac, according to data from the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration Tuzla.
The water level at the Modrac Hydroelectric Power Plant has increased by eight centimeters in 24 hours, while the water levels of the Gostelja and Oskove rivers in Živinice, the Drinjača in Kladanj, the Tinja in Srebrenik, the Litva in Banovići and the Lukavčić river in Lukavac are decreasing.
A landslide has been reported in the Kalesija municipality in the Dedajići settlement, which is endangering road communications and a bridge.
More than 800 buildings flooded in Prijedor, 145 people evacuated
The water level of the Sana River in Prijedor is decreasing. The Civil Protection Department of the City of Prijedor said that the current water level is 456 cm, which is about 60 cm less than the highest measured value of the previous day.
The water is slowly receding from the flooded settlements of Gomjenica and Tukovi, but 800 buildings are still under water. So far, 145 people have been evacuated from these settlements.
Members of the Red Cross are delivering food to flooded households.
Landslides triggered in Banja Luka
The Banja Luka Department for Civil Protection Affairs has received numerous reports of landslides and rockfalls, and nine teams have been formed to visit the terrain and issue emergency orders where necessary, said the head of this department, Dragan Babić.
“Landslides are occurring throughout the Banja Luka area. Landslides are being cleared, and landslide rehabilitation is a longer process. The damage will be assessed by a commission,” said Babić, adding that the Vrbas has dropped below the emergency flood protection level and is 340 centimeters, with a tendency to stagnate. The Vrbanja, as he said, has almost returned to normal.
