The Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH confirmed the first instance verdict which sentences Oliver Krsmanović to 18 years in prison for committing a crime against humanity at the territory of Višegrad.
Both the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the defense of Krsmanović appealed on the first instance verdict. However, the Appellate Panel discharged their complaints as unfounded.
In August last year, Krsmanović was declared guilty and sentenced to 18 years in prison for committing a crime against humanity. He was convicted for participating in executions, violent disappearances, and other inhumane acts committed against the Bosniak population.
Krsmanović was sentenced because on August 22, 1992 he participated in kidnapping from a bus and murdering of 16 civilians from Sjeverin (Serbia), and because in June the same year he was an accessory to the murder of eight Bosniak men who were taken from the factory “Varda” in Višegrad.
Krsmanović was also declared guilty of participating in violent disappearances of Bosniak population, 13 persons in total, in May and June of 1992. Bodies of several victims were found later.
According to the verdict, Krsmanović committed the majority of these crimes with Milan Lukić, who was sentenced to life for crimes in Višegrad before the Hague Tribunal.
The Panel also convicted Krsmanović for the torturing of one civilian in Višegrad and for participating in the beating of another civilian in the camp “Rasadnik” in Rogatica in September 1995.
Krsmanović was acquitted of four counts in the indictment, for raping, killing and torturing.
