“Open Skies” Observation flight over Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Communications and Transport and Sarajevo International Airport, will carry out an observation flight of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hungary, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of France and the Czech Republic, in accordance with the provisions of the international agreement “Open sky”, in the period from April 22 to 26 this year.

“Citizens are informed that this is an announced activity, during which the aircraft crew and international inspectors will be joined by the accompanying team of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Communications and Transport, and that there is no need for concern and fear,” the Ministry of Defense of BiH states.

The observation flight will be carried out by an aircraft of the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Germany (A319OH). The exact time of implementation and the path of the observation flight will be agreed during the joint preparation, after the arrival of the delegation at Sarajevo International Airport.

The recording of the territory is carried out with sensors certified in accordance with the provisions of the contract, after inspection by members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The “Open Skies” agreement is one of the security arrangements that allows the member countries to record the territory of the country over which the observation flight is carried out in order to obtain data on military forces and activities. The purpose of the agreement is to build and develop trust between the members. Bosnia and Herzegovina joined that agreement. 2003. Since then, in cooperation with other members, it has been actively participating in the realization of observation flights both over the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and over the territory of other member countries, announced the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
