Today, Orthodox believers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world celebrate Christmas Day ahead of the celebration of Christmas, the most joyous holiday, the birth of Jesus Christ. At the same time, it is the last day of the Christmas fast, and in its essence it is a family holiday when all its members gather on Christmas Eve for a fast meal, welcoming the day of Christ’s birth.

On Christmas Day, a Christmas tree, an oak or cherry tree, is traditionally lit, which will be held in Sarajevo today at 5 p.m. in the yard of the Old Orthodox Church.

One of the customs is to bring grain into the house along with Christmas Eve so that the next year will be fruitful. On Christmas Eve, one does not sleep, but watches and waits for the moment of Christ’s birth. According to beliefs, nothing should be taken out of the house on Christmas Day.

Orthodox Christians will celebrate Christmas tomorrow, the most joyous holiday of the birth of Christ, and in Sarajevo at 9 o’clock there will be a proper liturgy in the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
