Why Osim does not want Street in Sarajevo to be called after him?

OsimInitiative of BH sports journalist Muhamed Bikic that current Zvornicka Street next to Grbavica Stadium in Sarajevo is renamed in Ivice Osima Street, the legendary BH player and coach, has not passed so far.

“The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo requires the consent of Ivica Osim himself and 5 % of signatures of residents of local communities Trg Heroja and Grbavica 2 (where is located the current Zvornicka Street), registered voters,” confirmed Bikic.

After this decision of the municipal authority, journalist Bikic contacted the legendary Strauss who answered on this initiative in his style.

“Come on. I’ve heard about it and that you started it, as my neighbor from Hrasno. It’s nice from you to remember me, but please do not, please. There are more deserving heroes who should get the street,” said Osim, according to Bikic.

Bikic emphasized that he will not give up on this initiative that legendary Osim one day gets the street in the capital city of BiH, in the vicinity of the Grbavica Stadium.

“There is a lot of symbolism in one of the streets of childhood of Ivica Osim in the settlement Hrasno, where he was born, started to walk, made his first football steps, and right next to the Grbavica stadium, which he made famous both as a player and as the coach of FC Zeljeznicar.”

Bikic believes that the legendary Osim, as a sports ambassador of BiH, deserved to get the street named after him in the city, where this a man and athlete originates from and where generations and generations of people see this man as an example in every sense.

“Unfortunately, it seems that, as in everything else, our old practice will repeat, which combined with slow bureaucracy, makes medals and gratitudes awarded posthumously,” said Bikic, who started this initiative.
