“Our Vehicle was hit while Waiting to enter Gaza”, UNICEF says

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that one of its vehicles was hit yesterday in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army continues to attack.

“Yesterday, live ammunition hit a UNICEF vehicle that was waiting to enter northern Gaza. The incident was reported to the Israeli authorities,” it was stated on UNICEF’s X profile.

“Unfortunately, aid workers are still exposed to danger while providing life-saving aid. Unless aid workers are protected in accordance with international humanitarian law, it is impossible for aid to reach those in need,” UNICEF said.

In the UNICEF statement, there is no information on whether there were any victims in the attack.

A major humanitarian crisis exists in the Gaza Strip with a population of 2.3 million, where the Israeli army has continued its attacks targeting civilian settlements, hospitals, schools and shelters where displaced Palestinians have taken refuge since October 7, 2023, as well as preventing entry of humanitarian aid and condemning the people to die of hunger.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East said in a March 10 statement that “hunger is everywhere” in the Gaza Strip, which Israel has been under siege for 17 years.

Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7 have killed 33,545 Palestinians, including at least 14,500 children and 9,560 women, and wounded 76,094 people.

Thousands are said to still be dead under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where people have taken shelter, AA writes.
