In Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fourth quarter of 2023, the labor force consisted of 1.398 million people, of which 87.4 percent were employed and 12.6 percent were unemployed, according to data from the Labor Force Survey in BiH.
Compared to the previous quarter, the number of employed persons increased by 1.6 percent, and the number of unemployed persons decreased by 6.2 percent, announced the BiH Statistics Agency.
The number of persons outside the labor force in BiH in the fourth quarter of 2023 was 1.481 million and decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter. In that quarter, the activity rate was 48.6 percent, the employment rate 42.4 percent, the unemployment rate 12.7 percent, and the inactivity rate 51.4 percent.
According to the data from the Survey, of the total number of persons who make up the workforce, 852 thousand or 60.9 percent are men, and 546 thousand or 39.1 percent are women, while of the total number of employed persons 764 thousand or 62.5 percent are men. and 457 thousand or 37.5 percent are women. Of the total number of unemployed, 88 thousand (49.9 percent) are men, and 89 thousand (50.1 percent) are women.
In the observed period, of the total labor force, 65.6 percent of persons belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, followed by 26.2 percent to the age group of 50 to 64 years, seven percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years and 1.1 percent have 65 and over.
Of the total number of employed persons, 65.7 percent of persons belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, then 27.4 percent to the age group of 50 to 64 years, 5.7 percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years and 1.2 percent are 65 and more years.
Of the total number of unemployed persons, 65.5 percent belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, followed by 17.9 percent to the age group of 50 to 64 years, 16 percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years and 0.6 percent are 65 and over. year.
The largest share in the educational structure of the workforce is people with completed secondary school and specialization, 69.3 percent, followed by people with completed higher education, university, master’s degree, doctorate 22 percent and people with completed primary school or lower education 8 .8 percent.
The educational structure of employed persons shows that 69.3 percent of persons have completed high school and specialization, followed by persons with completed higher school, university, master’s degree, doctorate 23.1 percent and persons with completed elementary school or lower education 7.7 percent.

The structure of employed persons according to groups of areas of activity shows that the highest participation of employed persons in service activities is 59.2 percent, then in industry and construction 33.3 percent and in agriculture, forestry and fishing 7.5 percent.
The survey was conducted on a sample that included 10,728 households in the fourth quarter, and all resident members of private households were surveyed, Fena news agency writes.
