A total of 10,600 pigs were euthanized in 255 households in the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina that were affected by the African swine fever virus – confirmed Kosta Kojić, head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Brčko District Government.
He said that not a single case of swine infection has been recorded for a long time and that the virus is waning due to the colder weather.
“There has been a lull and I hope it will remain so when it comes to infection with the African swine fever virus. Currently, they are nearing the end of writing solutions to the farmers, and the first payments can be expected as soon as possible,” says Kojić.
He advised all breeders not to move new pigs to their farms for the next few months or until the end of the pandemic is officially declared in the District, and to still adhere to the prescribed disinfection measures.
Kojić praised the good cooperation and coordination with services in the region and expressed the hope that these regular contacts and cooperation will be maintained in the future, Fena reports.
