After passing the first stage of the “March of Peace” and spending the night in the Liplje camp, several thousand participants today continued their march as part of the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. Today they reached the second camp in Mravinjci near Konjević-Polje.
The “March of Peace” lasts three days and the participants walk on a path about a hundred kilometers long from Nezuk to Potočari. Participants walk about 30 kilometers a day. In some places, the trail is extremely strenuous, inaccessible and requires solid physical fitness of the participants.
The “March of Peace” column is led every year by veterans who managed to survive the road to death and the genocide of July 1995.
After arriving in Potočari, the participants of the “Peace March” have the opportunity to attend the commemoration, funeral and burial of the identified victims of genocide, found in some of the mass graves in the localities they themselves passed during the hike, on July 11.
So far, 6,721 victims of the genocide committed against Bosniaks in 1995 have been buried in the cemetery of the Srebrenica – Potočari Memorial Center, and around 1,000 victims are still being searched for.
