marchParticipants of the Peace March “Sarajevo Nezuk Potocari 2016” departed this morning from Sarajevo, and they will cross about 260 km long road in a total of eight days.

Organized column from Sarajevo will join the participants of the Peace March in Nezuk, from where they will continue to Potocari where they should arrive on the 11th of July, the day of the collective burial and funeral of the victims of Srebrenica genocide.

Representative of the organizers of the Peace March, Muhamed Papic, said that 80 people are participating at this year’s march. The youngest is Emin Murtic who is 14 years old, and he joined his father and older sister.

“We all know why we’re going, and when a man has a pure intention, kilometers are the least problem. Inflammation of muscles and blisters were our biggest problems so far, and we are solving them on the go. It’s not as hard as it looks when expressed in kilometers,”said Papic.

Slobodan Kisin is 67 years old and he is participating in the Peace March from Sarajevo for the second time. His aim is to pay the tribute to the victims once again. Last years’ experience showed, he says, that it is not hard, especially since he was a mountaineer.

Remza Smajic (60) is going from Sarajevo to commemorate the victims in Potocari for the fifth time, and she participated in the Peace March for 14 times. She says that she is deeply attached to the March, and the first one left a deep trace in her memory, and she sees it differently every time as the years are passing by.

This is the fifth Peace March from Sarajevo and organizer is the Association “Witnesses of this time.” The number of participants is increasing from year to year, and dozen of them are participating from the very beginning. Among the participants of this year’s march are also foreign citizens (from Turkey and Serbia).

Before departure from Sarajevo, participants of the Peace March laid flowers at the Memorial to martyrs and the fallen soldiers this morning and paid tribute to them. Arnela Bojcic, participant of the March from previous years, gave painting with flower “Memories” – a symbol of the fight against genocide and mass starvation of people, a symbol of struggle for human rights, freedom, symbol of innocence and hope to participants of the Peace March Sarajevo – Nezuk – Potocari 2016.

Peace March is held in memory of the several thousand citizens of Srebrenica who passed a long way to find salvation in Tuzla in July 1995.
