Preparations are underway for the collective funeral in Potočari, but also for the Peace March, which will also remind of the terrible period of the July days of 1995. Hamdija Fejzić, president of the Organizing Committee for the marking of July 11, spoke to Dnevnik 2 about how the preparations are going, whether there will be any changes compared to previous years.

He stated that they started organizing the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Protected Area of Srebrenica in time.

The peace march starts on July 8th – there will be no change in the route unless there are weather problems. Fejzić also mentioned that they are ready if that happens – there have been years with rain and landslides.

When it comes to the commemoration, Fejzić said that the practice of addressing dignitaries – domestic and foreign officials – remains. The list of those who have confirmed their arrival is not yet available, but it will be known by July 3 or 4.

In the premises of the Memorial Center Srebrenica – Potocari, a working meeting of the leadership of the Organizing Committee and the president of the subcommittee was held yesterday to mark the 28th anniversary of the genocide against the Bosniaks of the “Safe area of United Nations (UN)” Srebrenica from July 1995.

At the meeting, it was noted that the preparations for the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica are proceeding according to plan.

“At today’s meeting, the presidents of the subcommittees reported on the preparations within their subcommittees. We can say that the preparations are going according to plan and we expect that everything will be ready for the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide. Soon we will also have a meeting of the Organizing Committee. This year we will also have a large number of activities. We have an obligation to the victims and it is our task to do our best so that everything goes smoothly,” the president of the Organizing Committee, Hamdija Fejzic, said yesterday.

This year, the “Peace March” is one of the most massive activities in the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide, and this year a larger number of participants is expected than in previous years.

According to information from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), 19 victims of genocide have been identified so far for the funeral on July 11th, 2023.
