romaToday, in Java gallery in Sarajevo, an exhibition of photos by Almin Zrno ‘Ako hoćeš, možeš/ Kaj mange, šaj/ You can do it if you want to’ dedicated to education of Romani people on the occasion of World Romani Day, reports klix.ba

‘This exhibition was created in order to remind the public that Romanies are our fellow citizens and that more than 30% of Romani children never go to Primary school, that 60% of them never go High school, and that only 2% of them go to universities’, said Dobrila Govedarica, executive manager of Open Society BIH Foundation.

She explained that BiH has signed the declaration on inclusion of Romanies and because of that it is obliged to support the policies that help their employment, health protection, habitation and education of Roma population. So far, we’ve succeeded in improving condition in all fields except education.

‘During the winter we’ve visited Romani families and we’ve heard some sad and some happy stories, and those moments were captured by Almin on his photos’, said Govedarica.

‘ For the needs of this exhibition, photos were selected that emphasize the better future for Romanies. I’ve got engaged in this project via Open Society BIH Foundation, and eight reports on education of BIH Romanies have been done. From those eight reports and many photos, 16 were chosen which we can see here. Photos were taken in past two-three months from Gradiška, Bijeljina, Mostar, Sarajevo, Zenica, etc.’, said Zrno for klix.ba

The catalogue of the exhibition was envisaged in the manner that all photos can be sent as postcards, and the exhibition will be opened until 10 April.
