On March 22, the Phytosanitary Inspection of the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, during a regular inspection at the border crossing Gorica, banned the import of table potatoes originating from Egypt.

Namely, as they stated, according to the results of laboratory analysis of consumer potato samples taken during the inspection, the presence of bacteria Clavibacter michiganensis and Ralstonia solanan was detected, which is contrary to the provisions of the Plant Health Act, which is why the consignment cannot be placed on the market. and use. Accordingly, the import of a controlled consignment in the amount of 27,000 kg, worth 8,100 US dollars, was prohibited and its return to the sender was ordered.
