Pilav: Number of active Infections is lower by 15 Percent

At the press conference of Sarajevo Canton (SC) Crisis Staff, it was stated that the epidemic is slowing down and that the number of active cases of infection in all municipalities is lower by 15 percent compared to the previous week, Klix.ba news portal reports.

“The first sources of infection have not yet been detected in shopping malls or among taxi drivers, but in offices. The most endangered are office employees,” said epidemiologist Aida Pilav.

She showed the data obtained from the analysis from March to August 2020.

“From March to May, we had the first episode. There were no active infections in SC on May 29th, until then there were 114 confirmed cases, 108 recovered and 6 passed away. So, Sarajevo was free from coronavirus on May 29th. That was the period when measures were implemented. At the moment when the restrictive measures were eased and there was a greater population movement, a larger number of infected people was to be expected, so on June 3rd the first case was recorded, and rises were on July 2nd and August 4th with 107 and 157 confirmed infections,” said Pilav.

She emphasized that no exponential growth was recorded, and that the Crisis Staff was satisfied with the current situation development and the reduction in the number of new infections.

“From August 1st to August 5th, we had a seven-day average of almost 22 people per 100.000 citizens, and then there was a decline and now that number is 10.37. Six percent of severe cases end up in hospital. But if the number of active ones increases, it is to be expected that this number will be higher as well,” said Pilav.

The situation improvement speaks in favor of that, as she points out, so citizens follow the measures after the relaxed behavior, even though they still do not have to.
