The Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Canton Sarajevo, Cedomir Lukic, stated that the reduction of air pollution in Canton Sarajevo is significantly lower, in comparison to the same period last year.

He added that there are two main reasons for this, and they include favorable meteorological conditions without fog that contributes to the increase of pollution, and the implementation of the activities of that ministry.

He also stated that these regular activities include the implementation of the project that refers to the increase of energy efficiency in public buildings and facilities, then monitoring of air pollution and the increase of the number of users of natural gas, whose price is much cheaper in comparison to previous years.

He stated that the realization of the project started with the signing of the agreement between the Ministry and Sarajevogas and that he expects about 1,000 new users who will be selected through a public invitation, and it will be announced very soon.

From the Federal Meteorological Institute stated that they expect rainy weather and a bit higher temperatures for this time of year, which will not create additional conditions for air pollution.

According to estimates of the United Nations, the degree of air pollution in BiH is 4.5 times higher than the limit determined by the World Health Organization, which has a negative effect on people’s health, but also on the health and well-being of animals and plants.
