According to the decision of the Health Insurance Institute of Sarajevo Canton, all patients of Canton Sarajevo have the right to refund the costs of in vitro fertilization in the amount of 4,000 BAM for the first attempt and 2,000 BAM for the second attempt.
Conditions that patients have to meet are to be women treated for infertility, women who have not given birth, women up to 37 years of age, who have diagnosis, conditions and all the necessary medical tests.
“I think this is a big step not only for patients from Sarajevo but also for the entire BiH, as it will draw attention to other types of disease that our fellow citizens are facing with, and for that it is necessary to allocate a larger amount of resources. Becoming a parent is certainly only desire of these patients, and the Institute took an important place in their lives with this act, by making easier for them to become parents upon completion of the process,” said the manager of the clinic IVF New Life Zejd Soto.
From the Health Insurance Institute confirmed that the patients can do all the necessary diagnostic and other health services for the treatment and proof of infertility in the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo or in other health institutions in Canton Sarajevo, at the expense of the compulsory health insurance. Otherwise, the Institute will participate in the refund of the costs of these processes.
Given that refunding of first two attempts of in vitro fertilization is on the Health Insurance Institute of CS, making valid only for patients from Sarajevo Canton. Patients from other cities will have to wait for better times, until some similar project does not get started at a higher level.
This act of the Health Insurance Institute of CS is the first project of this kind in the country, while it is common practice in some countries of the region and member states of the European Union.
