mladiThe project entitled “Promoting healthy life styles among the young population in B&H by derogating gender stereotypes”, oriented towards fighting discrimination, juvenile delinquency and violence among young people of the same age was presented yesterday in Sarajevo.

The Government of Switzerland supported this 1,4 million Swiss francs worth project with 50 % of funds. It was also supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation, the OAK Foundation and the CARE International.

The director of the Cooperation Office at the Swiss Embassy in B&H, Joseph Guntern said at the yesterday’s press conference that the gender equality in the context of international cooperation is a subject that’s being discussed for twenty years now and which upholds the social equality among men and women as well as raising awareness and education.

“In the European countries, women appeared at the international scene in 1840 and raised their voices. But the gender equality as we know it today appeared in the 70ies and has been presented through different platforms and initiatives ever since.” – pointed out Guntern.

The advisor at the CARE International Balkans John Crovnover said that the problems the young people are having are the same as elsewhere in the world and added that the young people in B&H are however going through a tough period, especially concerning the transition.

The project manager at the CARE International Balkans, Saša Petković said that this project will empower the capacities of the educators supporting young people on the path of transition through various trainings and development of pedagogical methods.

“It will also promote positive aspects of masculinity and work approaches to the young people during the critical period of adolescence, in the educational system and through work with the young population in the community.” – pointed out Petković.

This project will be implemented in 10-15 towns across B&H by the CARE International Balkans in cooperation with the Association XY from Sarajevo, Perpettum Mobile from Banja Luka and Force of Youth from Mostar.

The main target group are over 10 000 young people. Special focus will be on the marginalised and socially discriminated boys and girls in secondary schools including the Romani population.” – concluded Petković.

Within this project, yesterday evening the theatre play “Muškarčine” (Machos) was performed at the Kamerni teatar 55.
