Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo comments on Energy Security and Supply

On the occasion of yesterday’s gas shutdown in the Sarajevo Canton and the possible complication of the security situation related to the pronouncement of the verdict against the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, addressed the public.

“We believe in the professional work of our judiciary and that their decision will be in accordance with the legal norms and laws of our country. Unfortunately, we are witnessing pressure on the citizens of BiH and Sarajevo due to possible verdicts through security destabilization and the denial of basic energy sources to the citizens of Sarajevo. The Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Sarajevo Canton informed me that they are taking regular measures and actions within their jurisdiction, with the aim of ensuring public order and peace in the territory of the Sarajevo Canton. “I would like to inform the citizens of Sarajevo that we are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground, and that the competent authorities and institutions continue to do their job professionally and responsibly,” said the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk.

Due to last night’s suspension of gas deliveries to Sarajevo Canton, “Toplane-Sarajevo” has, in order to ensure savings of the remaining gas quantities in the system, switched to alternative energy sources wherever technically feasible, with uninterrupted continuity in the delivery of thermal energy to users.

Due to the relatively high temperatures and the timely disconnection of all large consumers who could switch to using alternative fuels, Sarajevogas announced that individual consumers/households and all others who do not have the possibility of using alternative fuels will have uninterrupted natural gas deliveries, if the gas supply is restored by tonight and if all citizens adhere to consumption rationalization measures.

Within this framework, “Sarajevogas” has reduced the gas pressure to “Sarajevo gas” in East Sarajevo, with the possibility of additional reduction if the pressure drops in the gas system – the press service of the Cantonal Government states in a statement.
