The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, met today at the headquarters of the FBiH Government in Sarajevo with the director of the USAID mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Courtney Chubb, with whom he discussed current projects and future cooperation between the government and the US development agency.
Prime Minister Nikšić thanked USAID for the unreserved support provided to the country so far, evaluating it as one of the most important international partners.
He informed the director of the USAID mission about the upcoming activities of the FBiH Government when it comes to the rule of law, which primarily relates to the fight against corruption. In this direction, he emphasized the importance of forming special departments at the Supreme Court of FBiH and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible.
“We are determined to immediately start implementing the Law on Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime in FBiH. We will soon organize a meeting with the leadership of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council. The formation of special departments of the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor’s Office in FBiH is important to us. The decision of the Government of the Federation of BiH is to do it as soon as possible, and we will insist on this at the meeting with the HJPC. I believe that we will get the best personnel who will tackle these cases,” said the Prime Minister.
He also informed the guest about the position of the FBiH Government regarding the importance of adopting legal solutions related to the protection of corruption whistleblowers and conflict of interest, which, as he emphasized, will incorporate the best world practice and democratic standards.
The meeting also focused on the economic cooperation between the Government of the Federation of BiH and USAID with a special focus on energy and tourism, and the passing of the law on the southern interconnection, which is in the parliamentary procedure, was assessed as an extremely important project.
The director of the USAID mission congratulated Prime Minister Nikšić on his appointment, stressing the importance of the commitment of the Prime Minister and the FBiH Government in the fight against corruption.
She informed the prime minister about the funds that the US government made available to our country for numerous purposes, which, in addition to improving the rule of law, also include the fields of energy and tourism. As Director Chubb pointed out, the fields of energy and tourism, along with connections and cooperation with the Bosnian diaspora, represent the enormous potential of our country.
She emphasized that in addition to financial assistance, USAID and the American government are available to the Government of the Federation of BiH when it comes to expertise, technical assistance and training in these areas.
