How Princess Diana kept her promise to Bosnian land mine Victim

It’s been 20 years since Princess Diana died in a traffic accident in Paris. Just several weeks before the tragic event, she visited BiH and met land mine victims.

She visited family Suljkanovic from the village Dobrnja near Tuzla. No one told them that a royal family will visit them. For the first time, British media The Telegraph showed footage from that period.

Father Muhamed Suljkanovic lost both feet when he fell on a land mine in the woods near their home. Princess Diana promised financial help for Muhamed so he can buy new prostheses. Although the princess died, her promise was fulfilled.

After a few months, they received a donation from the royal family in the exact amount that Princess Diana promised during her visit.

“I could not believe that she was dead. I have a daughter that I named after her because they say that if you want to remember someone, you will remember it like that,” said Muhamed.

The princess visited him on his birthday, on August 9.

“Diana and her friend Ken brought a cake and sang the “Happy birthday” song. We were shocked and we wondered how they found out that,” said his wife Suada.

The other victim was Malik Brdaric, who was only 13 years old when he stepped on a land mine back in 1996 while playing in the village Klokotnica. He lost a bigger part of his right leg. Diana visited him as well.

“I was expecting a member of the royal family in a glittering dress and a crown on her head but instead of that, the Princess came dressed in jeans and a white shirt. She was our light at the end of the tunnel, and when we heard that she was dead, that light turned off,” said Brdaric.

Diana died on August 31, 1997.
