Irma Marković, creator of unique jewellery ‘Precious Jewelry’

By Maša Branković

[wzslider]She is an art teacher, but above all she is a wife and mother of two year old girl. Irma Marković, born in Sarajevo started the project ‘Precious Jewelry’, a project of creating unique jewellery, primarily because of the love towards sweet things that can embellish outfit of every young person who wants to be different from others, and details she’s working on help her on that path.

‘It all started in 2009, when the love towards Fimo mass or polymer clay, from which I made the jewellery, at that time only for myself, was born. I always loved to create, and I always had an eye for interesting shapes, samples and colour combinations. I work on the ‘Precious Jewelry’ for a year, and it was created rather accidentally. I wanted to create jewellery just for myself, something different, however, my friends liked it, and then their friends, and in very short time, it became something larger than I expected it to.’

She says that a lot has changed, concerning the creation of jewellery, since she started until today.

‘Since my first contact with polymer clay, I’ve managed, through hard work, to make the jewellery both neatly done and interesting. In time, I dedicated myself more to photography of jewellery and packing it.’

We were interested how much time is needed to make a piece of jewellery with so many tiny details.

‘It all depends on the piece you work on. Around two hours are needed to make clay jewellery, and after, the process of heating the clay starts, and then colouring, etc. On average three to four hours. I dedicate a lot of attention to photography and packages which are also handmade. I like to hear a compliment that the jewellery looks better than in pictures, which is indeed better than other way round. My favourite piece of jewellery is the brooch I made for my daughter Minja.’

Her buyers are mostly young women, girls, but there are buyers of different generations, and added, jokingly, that sometime she’s surprised by people who buy her jewellery. Having in mind that it is unique and that the package is interesting, it is often an ideal present for beloved ones.

Her jewellery can be seen and ordered primarily via facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/preciousjewelry

‘I hope that the opening of a small gallery will be something to strive for. I think the project is already large and mature enough for the next step, and I think it would be a shame if the sales would go only via facebook.’
