Prominent Bosnian writer Hadzem Hajdarevic passed away

Prominent Bosnian writer Hadžem Hajdarević died at the age of 68.

He completed the Gazi Husrev Bey madrasah in Sarajevo and studied language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, also in Sarajevo. He published 12 books of poetry. Books of selected verses by Hajdarević were published in Bulgarian, French, English, Slovenian, Polish and German. It was also translated into Arabic, Flemish, Hungarian, Macedonian, Danish, Russian, Italian, Turkish, Ukrainian and other languages.

He is the winner of several literary awards: the Trebinje Poetry Evenings Award (1981), the Skender Kulenović Award (1996), the Planjax Award for the best book of poems (2005), several BiH and regional awards for the best short story…

He is one of the authors of the Bosnian Language Dictionary and co-author of the Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian Spelling Handbook with the Basics of Grammar. He is the author or co-author of several reading books for primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He was a member of the Society of Writers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a member of the Bosnian PEN, and, since its restoration, a member of the Board of Directors of the Preporod Bosniak Cultural Society. During the war, he edited Muslimski glas, and after the merger of this paper with Ljiljan, he was the responsible editor of Ljiljan’s edition in the country, Klix.ba reports.
