Prosecutor’s Office requested Custody for a Person who was sentenced to Twenty Years Imprisonment

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina requested custody for Almir Sarajlić, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for crimes against prisoners of war in the Vitez area, and who was arrested at the airport in Sarajevo when he tried to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Detention was requested due to the risk of escape and influence on witnesses.

At the detention hearing, it was said that the Prosecution had information that Sarajlić was preparing to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina, which would make him unavailable to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and would make his prosecution impossible.

At the hearing, it was said that Sarajlić tried to leave the country on October 21, reports Birn.

In mid-September, Sarajlić was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a first-instance verdict for crimes against prisoners of war in the area of Vitez.

The court found Sarajlić guilty of the murders of 12 captured members of the Croatian Defense Council committed on December 22, 1993, and acquitted Ibrahim Purić, Ibrahim Tarahija, Nijaz Sivra, Rusit Nurković, Sadik and Šaćir Omanović, and Kasim Kavazović.

The court will make a decision on custody later.
